Nose Surgery - back to services
Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) involves sculpting excess bone and cartilage, reshaping the nose for the sake of appearance or improved breathing
As the central and defining characteristic of the face, the nose has a dramatic impact on the way we look. Even the slightest alteration in the size and shape of the nose can greatly enhance appearance. With rhinoplasty, Dr. Waters strives to create a nose that is natural and balanced to fit your face. The rhinoplasty procedure is tailored to meet your needs and performed under the strictest safety standards at our private Minnesota facility.
Understanding Rhinoplasty(nose-shaping) Surgery
There are several approaches to reshaping the nose during rhinoplasty surgery. Dr. Waters makes the majority of his incisions inside the nose, where they are invisible. In certain cases, the incision will be made in the skin separating the nostrils. Following the first incision, the skin is lifted and nasal cartilage and bone are manipulated to create a well-defined, proportionate shape. Dr. Waters then redrapes the skin over the new frame and the incisions are closed. To aid in the healing process, a nose splint is applied to maintain the new shape. Additional soft materials may be put inside the nose to support the new structure and protect the air passages.
Rhinoplasty patients are put under general anesthesia or deep sedation to keep them comfortable. Dr. Waters uses board certified anesthesiologists to administer anesthesia in his private accredited surgical suite in Minnesota. Your safety is his top priority.
What to Expect After Rhinoplasty Surgery
Following rhinoplasty surgery, it is important to protect and stabilize the new nose structure. To this end, Dr. Waters will place the nose splint on the outside of your nose immediately after surgery and may use absorbable sutures to close your incisions. No packing is used in the nose.
One week after your rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Waters will see you in his Minnesota office to remove your splints. It is important that you follow Dr. Waters’s directions, especially instructions to keep your head elevated and refrain from blowing your nose following surgery.
Revision Rhinoplasty
Because of his expertise, Dr. Waters is often called upon to reshape noses that have been previously operated on. Although revision rhinoplasty is a more difficult procedure, his training and experience in both Facial Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology give him the expertise to give his patients a more desirable rhinoplasty outcome.
